Other top cities include Bangkok (2), New York (3), Melbourne (4), London (5), Porto (8) and Lisbon (12). 97% of Cape Town residents said the city makes them happy.
Time Out’s Ranking Criteria
Time Out, https://www.timeout.com/ a global media company, has released its annual “Best Cities in the World” list, and Cape Town topped the rankings for 2025.
The ranking is based on extensive input from over 18,500 residents worldwide, as well as insights from 100 city experts. The survey covered 44 different categories, with Cape Town scoring highly across the board for its beauty, overall happiness, top-notch food scene and overall city vibe.

Local Pride
97% of Cape Town residents said the city makes them happy, reflecting a strong sense of community pride and well-being.
