Intro – Copenhagen – Cycling Made Fun
Imagine a city where you can basically cycle anywhere and everywhere: bike routes just for cyclists, dual roads with lanes for vehicles and bicycles where cyclists feel safe, they are respected and where in many instances they have priority. A city where mom or dad can take her/ his child to school on a bicycle, a city where you cycle to work and to the grocery store. Cycling is more than just a hobby or mode of transportation; for many people in this great city it is a way of life, with numerous physical, mental and social benefits. Welcome to Copenhagen!
The stats are impressive: Cycling accounts for 45% of all trips to work and study in Copenhagen. Copenhageners own more than 744.500 bicycles, which is five times more than cars. Approximately half of all school children in Copenhagen cycle to school. Cycling reduces the risk of premature death by 28%. There are financial and socio-economic benefits as well (refer below).
