What a beautiful winter’s day for a hike! A warm welcome to Dawie and Tumie, and thank you to everyone who joined us. It was wonderful spending the morning exploring Klipriviersberg together.

Congratulations to Tumie on recently completing the Two Oceans Half Marathon! 👏👏 We also wish her every success as she prepares to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in October. What an exciting adventure!

Please note: Going forward, our Klipriviersberg hike will take place on the third Sunday of each month.

As part of our ongoing effort to provide more useful information for walkers and hikers, future hike reports will also include environmental conditions recorded before the start of the hike, such as:

It was a chilly winter morning at Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve, but the scenic trails and great company made for another enjoyable social hike. Although we were a small group, the atmosphere was warm and friendly throughout the morning.

A big thank you to Ayanda, Esther, Heather, Mohamed and Omera for joining us. We explored some of Klipriviersberg’s most beautiful sections, including the viewpoints, the Klip River, the Silent Pool and the wooden bridge before returning to the South Entrance.

Sadly, Esther had a fall during the hike. Fortunately, she was able to continue and complete the entire route, still managing a courageous smile at the finish. We wish Esther a speedy recovery and hope to see her back on the trails again soon.

Environmental Conditions at the Start of the Hike

It was a beautiful sunny autumn morning for our Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve group hike in Johannesburg. Temperatures started at a cool 6°C in the early morning and rose to a pleasant 20°C (66°F) by midday — ideal weather for hiking.

Thank you to everyone who joined the hike and social. It was wonderful seeing Ayanda again after a 2-year hiatus. Wishing Candice and Tanika every success with their university studies, and a warm welcome to Sebastian visiting from the Netherlands. It was very interesting hearing from Lauren about the many amazing hikes and hiking trails in and around Cape Town. Thank you, Lauren.

The group maintained a strong and enjoyable pace throughout the hike and we were fortunate to see wildebeest and zebra along the route.

After the hike, some of us enjoyed lunch and a social gathering at Kraal Restaurant at Thaba Eco Hotel. The chicken livers were delicious, Belinda enjoyed a caffe latte and I had a chocolate milkshake — still one of my favourites. Lovely food, lovely company and a wonderful atmosphere.
