Intro

Each spring, usually from October to November, a sea of purple petals from thousands of jacaranda trees bloom above Johannesburg and Pretoria/ Tshwane’s suburban streets. There are over 50 000 jacaranda trees in Johannesburg.

Johannesburg – the World’s Largest Human-Made Urban Forest

Johannesburg is known as the worlds’ largest human-made urban forest, with estimates of over 10 million trees planted in public parks, private gardens and as street trees. This title originated from the city’s rapid growth after the gold rush in 1886, when settlers planted numerous trees to create shade and wood, transforming the original savannah grassland into a dense, tree-covered urban landscape visible even from satellite imagery.

Rebone and Sean have both been included in our Hall of Fame.
