I currently have 2,669,745 lifetime meters in rowing on the Concept2 rowing machine. I may still be small fry in the rowing world, but I truly enjoy the sport and the many physical and mental benefits that come with it.
I had not rowed in a few months, but I became interested in completing the half marathon in the Concept2 Global Marathon and Century Challenge.

Indoor rowing is an excellent full-body workout that helps improve:
- cardiovascular fitness,
- endurance,
- muscular strength,
- and mental resilience.
Rowing can also help reduce stress, improve concentration and promote overall wellbeing. One of the things I enjoy most about rowing is that it combines physical effort with mental discipline and consistency.
To learn more about Concept2 challenges:
Since time is a major constraint for me, I followed a simple progressive training approach:
- Day 1: 5,000 meters
- Day 2: 10,000 meters
- Day 3: 15,000 meters
- Day 4: Half Marathon (21,097 meters)
I rested for two days between each rowing session. In hindsight, a three-day recovery period between Day 3 and the Half Marathon may have been even more beneficial.
I also tried to:
- sleep between 6–8 hours per night,
- maintain a balanced diet,
- avoid soft drinks,
- and I don’t smoke.
My daily eating routine generally consists of:
- a power drink first thing in the morning,
- two large meals (breakfast and dinner),
- and a lighter lunch.
I am very pleased that I successfully completed the Concept2 Rowing Half Marathon Challenge 👍👍
