Intro – Caminito del Rey 8 Km Walk Malaga
El Caminito del Rey (The King’s Little Path) is a walkway pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge in El Chorro, in the province of Málaga, Spain 100 meters high above the river. The walkway was constructed in the early 20th century.
Caminito del Rey used to be known as “The Most Dangerous Walk in the World,” following five deaths in 1999 and 2000. The path has been renovated and it is currently one of the most amazing experiences one can have in one’s lifetime. However, if you have a fear of heights don’t even dream about it!
A few days ago Philip stopped over in Malaga to do the ‘Caminito del Rey’. This is an 8-kilometer (about 5 miles) walking trail that depending on one’s fitness it can take 3 – 5 hours to complete.
They pick you up at a designated point, the Tour guide then accompanies you to the trail. We could choose an English or German translator (guide) or go on our own, I decided to go on my own passing several other groups. The Tour group gives you translator and guide.

Caminito del Rey is not for people with a fear of heights. The Tour guide was excellent, gave background of the walk and history of sights along the way to starting point which is about 1 hour’s drive from Malaga in the South of Spain. Really enjoyed it and a must for any tourist, but make sure you book well in advance especially in Season.

Our Tour guide was a lady by the name of Elena Sanchis (tour company ‘Desconocido’ WhatsApp: +34 699 49 81 94) and she was excellent. Everyone was very impressed by her knowledge and professionalism.
