The Comrades is more than just a race; it is a significant part of South African culture. The Comrades Marathon field is known to be a representative mix of South Africa’s population.
The Comrades Marathon is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious ultramarathons. The Comrades Marathon was started by South African Vic Clapham a World War I veteran, to create a memorial to the fallen soldiers of that war and to test human endurance. The first race was held on May 24, 1921, with 34 participants, and served as a living memorial to the suffering and sacrifice of soldiers… today more than 22,000 runners lineup at the start…

Power
This year, Power completed his 30th Comrades race. Consider the amount of training, commitment and discipline needed in order to prepare for a 89 km race. Power completed this world renowned event not just once but thirty times.
On the completion of his 10th race, Power was awarded the prestigious green number which he has been wearing on subsequent Comrades. Power is married, he lives in Johannesburg and he is a coach at Virgin Active Bedfordview.
