How did I get to Diamond Status
- I joined Vitality on the 1st January this year and I have been training on average 6 times a week (30-60 minutes/ day). I only go to gym twice a week the other workouts I do at home or when we go out on our regular group walks. I try to get 300 Vitality points every time I train.
- 22 500 points – on the Vitality Health Check.
- 7500 points – Voluntary counselling and testing for HIV.
- 2 000 – flu vaccination.
Which Exercises Gave me 80%+ of my Max. Heart Rate (HR)?
Most of my workouts last between 30 mins and 1 hour. A 12 km group walk will last approx 3 hours. One can basically convert most workouts into 80%+ of your max. Heart Rate. Below some of the exercises where I’ve earned 300 Vitality points:
- Rowing (on the water or on a rowing machine) – there is nothing better to get your HR really pumping at 90%+ max.
- HIIT (Pushups, pullups, air squats, climbing stairs, burpees, etc… etc…). You can convert almost any exercise into a HIIT workout.
- Stepper
- Cycling
- Elliptical
- Strength Training – yes, doing weights can increase your HR provided you have only a short rest time between the sets.
- walking at a fast pace – to get 300 points on a walk I had to do long distances at least 90+ minutes of walking.
- Gardening (surprise, surprise – pottering and moving pots around the garden) – it must be 90+ mins with basically no rest time.
