Virgin Active Eastgate – A Great Gym

A cool gym, friendly staff, weight training with a variety of equipment for everyone in the family, swimming pool, undercover parking where you can park just outside the entrance to the gym. Sauna, steam room and a very modern shower room design. The Kauai restaurant at Virgin Active Eastgate serves a selection of hot drinks, smoothies and healthy snacks.

Virgin Active Bedfordview is undergoing an upgrade so I will be training at Virgin Active Eastgate for the next few weeks.

Virgin Active Eastgate is ideally situated in a shopping mall of the same name. Eastgate is the 3rd largest shopping mall in Johannesburg after the Mall of Africa and Sandton City. The mall has over 250 high end stores which include more than 60 fashion boutiques and 13 jewellers.

Also of interest is the fact that the trendy Eastgate shopping centre has the largest solar installation in Africa. The more than 13 000 solar panels cover an area just short of three rugby fields. The total installed capacity is 6MW and meets 35% of the centre’s energy needs.

UP TO 2 HOURS FREE PARKING AT VIRGIN ACTIVE EASTGATE – NOT ENOUGH👎

Virgin Active Eastgate is about half the size of Virgin Active Bedfordview but it is also a very nice gym, well equipped, clean with friendly staff.

You get free parking if you stay up to 2 hours at Virgin Active Eastgate.

This afternoon I did 1 hour strength training followed by 1 hour on the Wattbike. So I had to pay R10 for parking. Not nice. Time-wise I can only afford going to gym twice a week but since I go the minimum required for a freebie and because I consistently attend every week I also get an additional reward from Virgin Active which actually means I get a freebie (hot drink or smoothie) every time I attend gym.

All this to say: 2 hours training plus say half an hour to enjoy the freebie this pushes me and everyone else well over the 2 hour parking limit. The implications are that every time I go to Virgin Active Eastgate I have to pay R10 parking… I am going to go back to Virgin Active Bedfordview this Sunday (free parking with no time limit) even though Kauai is still closed due to the upgrade.

Overall I would give Virgin Active Eastgate 4-stars (Virgin Active Bedfordview gets 5 stars)😎
