11K and 15K Hikes Klipriviersberg Johannesburg – 2023 April 2

Intro

Great weather and great people. We were fortunate to see quite a number of springbok, wildebeest, zebra and one lonely blesbok.

Following the hike some of us tested the EBar at Thaba Eco Hotel a place surrounded by bush all around. Very pleasant. Lunch at the Kraal Restaurant (Thaba Eco Hotel) is always a most enjoyable experience. The chocolate milkshake is simply the best and we now have a ‘Milkshake Club’ going😋.

Erik will be leaving us for a few months. Genießen sie Deutschland Erik.

Thanks to all who participated. Thank you to the Hosts: Erik, Fatima, Teslar and Tony. Awesome photos courtesy of Erik, Maggie, Maria, Teslar and Tony🙂

Stats

So much fun. For all those we completed the 11K your burnt 1000 calories on the dot! Well done everyone!

This vista view with the buck and zebra herds (thanks Maria for the photos), at Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve, never fails to impress the Hike Groups, as they come from the Beacon point, one of a number of unexpected views that the Reserve rewards you with along the hike trails🦋🦎🌻🦌 🦓 JAN

Our Next Walk and Hike

Join us on Sunday 9th April for the 11K Hike or 15K Hike: a good workout, in great company and in beautiful surrounds!

Date

Sunday, 9th April 2023

The JCP Entrance

We have been using the new JCP Entrance Precinct in the South of the Reserve for quite a while: -26.303725, 28.010931 (traveling up Peggy Vera Road, the new precinct entrance is immediately after the Klipriviersberg Recreation Centre on the right) – directions below.

What to Bring and Where We Meet

What to bring: Water (1L to 2L) and something to eat, a hat, sunblock, good shoes – and a camera to record the occasion! A degree of fitness will enable you to enjoy the hike or the walk.

This is a great workout (you will burn 1,500 calories on the 15 K hike and about 1,000 on the 11 K hike), in great company and in beautiful surrounds. You will also get a good dose of Vitamin D.

We start and end the walk and hikes at the South entrance to Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve on Peggy Vera Road (NOT the North entrance to the Nature Reserve).

As you drive up on Peggy Vera Rd the best is to look for Klipriviersberg Recreation Center (on the right). The entrance to the Nature Reserve is the next one also on the right.

Go through security and park your vehicle – should the parking area be full, you will have to park on the lawn area outside. After parking, walk towards the lappa type area. On the other side of the lappa you will see a patch of grass, a small pond and a small bridge with a big steel gate as well as toilet facilities. The meeting area is between the lappa and the pond.

Please note: We would love to have your company but… please DO NOT attend if you are with COVID or if you have had COVID in the past 7 days or have been in contact with a person with COVID in the past 7 days. Thank you very much for your understanding.
