Intro – The Bedfordview Kensington Heritage Walk – 2024 April 28
What fabulous weather we are experiencing in Johannesburg. Cool mornings and warm sunny days. Another perfect day for a group walk. Thanks to everyone who participated and thanks to the hosts and new hosts: Belinda, Janine, Joel, Phumzile and Sylvia. Another good workout (10.53 km, 14088 steps, 827 calories) and as always a quick dip into history. Thank you to Mandi Greene for allowing us access to the gardens at the Buddhist Centre and to Security at Jeppe Boys for allowing us in.
Brian brought his dog Waverly along for a walk and she definitely had a good time🐕🦺. Amazing to see so many flowers this time of the year.
The cappuccinos at Fournos are getting tastier and everyone enjoyed the food.
If you are on Vitality you earned 300 Vitality points. Whether you are on Vitality or not you burnt 827+ calories and you walked over 10 Kms (over 14000 steps). Congratulations

Join us for the 12K ‘Bedfordview-Kensington Heritage Walk’ on the last Sunday of the month. We meet at 8am at the carpark next to Fournos restaurant at the Bedfordview Mall.
We do not run but we walk at a reasonably fast pace. There are a number of steep hills. You are going to have a good workout (get ready to burn 1000+ calories), you will be enjoying the company of nice people and beautiful surrounds.
On this walk you will easily cover your 10,000+ steps. Walking 10,000 steps daily offers a slew of physical and mental health benefits. For example, it can support healthy weight loss, improve joint health, boost mood and brain function and aid recovery. Also, walking is a low-impact exercise that is accessible to most people.

Worth Mentioning…
It is worth mentioning that:
- In these walks and hikes you meet friends and you make new ones.
- Kensington is a Buyer’s Paradise – large, affordable homes, good schools (private and public), the nearby shopping malls of Bedford Centre, Park Meadows and Eastgate, tree lined streets, friendly people, a lovely suburb. It is most enjoyable to walk, run and/ or cycle in many parts of Kensington.
As one walks through the suburb it is encouraging to see how individuals and companies are renovating their properties and in so doing, increasing the value of their properties as well as the value of adjacent properties👍👌👏. Conversely the owners who do not care to even paint their walls decrease the market value of all the properties in the street they are in👎.
